IN NOVEMBER . . .

A PROGRAM TO DYE FOR

Our meeting is this coming Friday, November 21. It features long time member Tom Charlier, who, besides building dogsleds, is heavily into staining, dying, and finishing woods. Over the years, Tom has collected a ton of recipes for stain, dyes, and finishing. Some are from the 1800s and others are contemporary. He plans to bring samples Friday night, to share recipes with us, and to demonstrate some of the dyes and finishes for us. He’ll be bringing handouts so that you can try some of his favorite recipes yourself at home. Among the many recipes, there is one for making hide glue, another for Linda’s honing lubricant, a veneer flattening solution, a very old recipe for milk paint, and techniques for “aging” wood.

I’m looking forward to this one and hope you are, too. We hope to see a lot of folks on Friday, November 21, for an informative presentation.

Where: Room 107 Mary Ann Cofrin Hall, UWGB Campus.

When: 7:00 P.M., Friday, November 21.

THE DECEMBER CHRISTMAS PARTY ... SAME GREAT PARTY... NEW LOCATION

This year’s Christmas Party will be held on Saturday, December 13, at the University of Wisconsin-Green Bay Ecumenical Center. That is across the road from MACC Hall and shares the parking lot with the Kress Center. Instead of turning left into the meeting, turn right for the party. Food and festivities will begin at 5:30 P M. Follow your nose when you come through the door. I will have that same hot beef and beef BBQ hot and ready to go.  As usual, it will be a pot luck dinner and you bring the rest of the food. Newcomers most welcome; everyone brings an appetizer, a dessert, or something to go with hot sandwiches, such as a potato dish, beans, Jell-O, salad, and so forth. Salads and desserts are especially popular. Ellen and whomever: Don't forget the deviled eggs. Please bring an appropriate serving utensil for your dish (and take it home). It looks like Tom Charlier will be bringing a smoked salmon again this year! There will be door prizes, maybe a game, and lots of good conversation.

We will pass around a sign-up sheet at the November meeting for you to indicate whether or not you are coming and, if so, how many of you there will be. We need that information to know how much food and drink to order. If you don’t come to the meeting, please RSVP to Jane at 468-0132 or 920-246-1553 or jalesch@new.rr.com. If no one answers, please leave a message.

Diane Kaster and I are going over this week to check out the room and plan the decorations (most of which will also be door prizes -- including the tree, I hope).

NEEDED: SOMEONE TO HELP SPEND THE GUILD'S MONEY

            1) Buy, chill and deliver soda and water. Extra coolers are available in my garage.

            2) Buy and deliver and help set up buns, olives, pickles, coffee, cream, sugar and whatever condiments I am forgetting. I will do a pot of spiced cranberry for old times’ sake and Diane and I will acquire the "paper and plastic service" as they will be part of the decor.

            3) Anyone else interested in helping to PLAN AND SET UP.

            4) A VOLUNTEER CLEAN UP COMMITTEE. We need to leave the place as we find it. They set up the round tables and chairs and sweep the floor. The kitchen has a microwave and two stoves with ovens and a refrigerator for our use and convenience.

I am looking forward to having the same huge, wonderful party we had at our house and being able to sit down and enjoy it with you and going home with nothing to do the next day but clean two slow cookers and a coffee pot.

THANK YOU FOR ALL THE GREAT PARTIES AT THE ALESCH HOUSE! LET'S KEEP OUR HOLIDAY TRADITION ALIVE, BUT RELOCATED.
